Noemi's family had a very nice life before the war.  The Germans marched into their town on March 19,1944 and they were taken to the Kishkuresh Ghetto and then to the Ketchkemae Brick Factory.  After one day they were put on a train to Budapest and lived in the Budapest Ghetto with her mother and sisters for the remainder of the war and were liberated by the Russian army.  Noemi was 13 years old at this time.  Noemi's father had been deported to Bergen-Belsen and survived and returned home after liberation. After the war when Noemi was 15 years old, she and her sister returned to Budapest looking for work.  They found jobs working in the kitchen of an orphanage where Noemi met her husband who was a teacher there.  They married in Budapest when Noemi was 16 years old and were married for 74 years.  Noemi's first two daughters were born in Budapest.  Noemi, her husband and daughters came to the United States via Vienna where they lived in a displaced persons camp for a while.  They arrived in the United States in November of 1952 and came to Detroit where they had an aunt who lived here. Noemi's father also came to Detroit where he worked as a teacher.  He passed away in 1968.
