My brother and I left on the Kindertransport to England in June, 1939. I was 13 ½ years old.  My parents left in December 1939 after World War II began. I came to the U.S. after acquiring a sponsor.
 
I enlisted in the United States Army and fought in World War II in the Pacific. I won two battle stars.
 
Later I graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering.

What do you think helped you to survive?
I didn’t suffer in a concentration camp as others. My primary driving force was to go on living, get on with normal life.
