In 1942 my family was transported from our village to Auschwitz where my parents and other siblings and extended family members were killed shortly after arrival.  I was with my sister Yoli throughout my time in Auschwitz and other concentration camps.  Ben and Herman were never taken to a concentration camp.  Hugo, twelve years old, survived Auschwitz, he was a blacksmith.  Herman obtained false papers through Raoul Wallenberg.  Ben was taken to a prison camp in the Russian Gulag.  Herman helped get him out after the war.  Ben reunited the family after the war.

How is it that you came to Michigan?
I had an aunt who had come to the United States before the war who was living in the Detroit area. My surviving siblings settled in the area, with the exception of Yoli who lived in New York.
